WUDFLY aircraft · Closely coupled V-tail BWB

VENOM

Closely coupled. Built to carve.

VENOM is a closely coupled V-tail blended wing body aircraft. It began as an experiment: how manoeuvrable can a compact FPV wing become without giving up predictable, stable handling? Designed for mid-to-high-speed proximity flying, its closely coupled V-tail blended wing body combines a bell-shaped lift distribution, a natural proverse-yaw tendency and full three-axis control. After several experimental configurations and extensive flight testing, the result is a precise, confidence-inspiring aerobatic wing that is simply hard to stop flying.

Wing engineering

Predictable by design. Agile by nature.

VENOM is a closely coupled V-tail blended wing body, developed for highly manoeuvrable, mid-to-high-speed proximity flying. The aim was an aircraft that holds its line with confidence, responds cleanly through aerobatics and remains predictable when flying close to the ground.

Its bell-shaped spanwise lift distribution and wing geometry are designed to promote proverse yaw — a natural tendency to yaw into a turn. The V-tail complements this behaviour with ruddervator pitch and yaw control, while contributing to the aircraft's intended pitch and yaw damping.

Bell-shaped loadingSpanwise lift distribution and wing twist are designed together to support predictable handling.
Proverse yawThe geometry encourages the nose to follow a banked turn rather than resist it.
Tested and iteratedOpenVSP and VSPAERO informed the design; successive physical prototypes and flight tests determined the final configuration.
An experimental aircraft

Many configurations. One I can't stop flying.

VENOM has been through multiple motor arrangements, control mixes, centre-of-gravity positions and rounds of simulation and flight testing. Some versions were pitch-limited. Others needed more work to feel right. The present configuration is the result of that iteration: stable and predictable when you need it to be, yet brilliantly rewarding in aerobatics and low-level FPV. It's the aircraft I keep reaching for.

Modular design

Modular wings. Faster repairs.

VENOM is designed around independently replaceable wing sections and motor-mount assemblies. The outer wing panels and motor mounts are often the first parts to take damage in a crash, so there is no need to rebuild the entire aircraft when only one section is broken.

The modular WingLoc joints and carbon spar make the airframe easier to transport and service, too. After a crash, having a small stock of printed spares can turn a damaged aircraft into a quick repair rather than a new project.

Replace only what brokeRemove a damaged outer panel or motor mount while keeping the rest of the aircraft intact.
Keep printed sparesPrint and prepare a few spare panels, mounts and other commonly damaged parts before you need them.
Back in the air fasterWith prepared spares, a straightforward wing or motor-mount swap can take minutes rather than another full build.

The additional WingLoc close-ups temporarily show SPECTRE as a reference. VENOM-specific assembly details are in the VENOM Build Guide.

Core electronics.

VENOM is built around a tried-and-tested electronics setup, with many of the same components used across other WUDFLY aircraft. These are the motors, servos, flight controller and FPV components I have used throughout development and flight testing. I trust their performance, build quality and the manufacturers behind them—which is why I recommend this specific configuration.

Designed around the actual hardware. The printed mounts, equipment bays and internal routing are built for the reference components below. They fit where intended without having to redesign the aircraft; follow the build guide for installation, wiring and configuration.

VENOM FAQ.

A few essentials for builders comparing VENOM with the rest of the WUDFLY Hangar.

What makes VENOM different from SPECTRE?

Both are compact 2S twin-tractor FPV wings. VENOM adds a V-tail with two ruddervators alongside two elevons, giving it aerodynamic control over pitch, roll and yaw. It is tuned for low-level Acro and coordinated turning.

What are the flight figures?

The current reference figures are 100 km/h top speed, approximately 70 km/h cruise and 25 km/h stall speed. The 1000 mAh 2S LiHV reference battery provides approximately 9 minutes of sport flying. Real-world results depend on the finished build and conditions.

Is the aircraft under 250 g?

The revision-01 reference bill of materials totals 249.4 g with the Explorer 1000 mAh 2S LiHV battery and DJI O4 Wide. Every builder must weigh their finished aircraft rather than assuming the calculated BOM mass is guaranteed.

Can the wings be removed?

Yes. VENOM uses a modular WingLoc arrangement with printed attachment hardware and a carbon spar. The removable sections make transport, maintenance and repairs easier.

What printer size do I need?

Minimum build volume is 180 × 180 × 180 mm. The primary airframe uses LW-PLA, with PETG functional parts and TPU control-surface hinges.

What electronics are used?

The reference build specifies two VCI Spark 1103 motors, four DSPOWER S002M servos, a Matek F405 Wing WMO, HAKRC 4-in-1 ESC, RadioMaster RP1 ELRS receiver and DJI O4 Wide video system.

Does the CHF 39 price include hardware?

No. VENOM is a digital package containing printable aircraft files and supporting project documentation. Filament, electronics, batteries and hardware are purchased separately.

Where can I find the build instructions?

The illustrated VENOM build guide is available at https://wudfly.com/venom-build-guide.
